Interview with Love Music Soul

Zach Cornell gives us an update on his music! Where does the soul of your music come from? I would say that comes from growing up in a little speed trap town in Texas and the stories that have just stuck with me for all these years. I'm probably biased, but I think everyone should spend some time in a small town in the South at some point. I don't think I'd have experienced a lot of the things I did or learned some of the lessons I did growing up somewhere different. And I didn't always have the easiest time back home, but that's a big part of what made me into the writer I am. I guess the soul of anyone's music comes from whatever molded them into the artist they are, and I have to give a lot of that credit to my twenty-some odd years in Texas. Why were you inspired to make your latest single? My wife and I had been having a time adjusting to life as parents, which I'm sure happens to everyone. We were at a time where we were just exhausted and going through the motions, and we didn't really have a whole lot to say. In a way that inspired me to sit down and write her a song about the things that I think are important. This one song helped me get through so many tough times in the last year, and I think I wrote it as much for me as I did her. But without her, I'd have never had any inspiration to write it, much less record it. How would you describe the single in one word? Simple. How much love do you put into making a new single? I probably put more love into this song than I have any other song. Out of everything I've written, it's my favorite and I think it will be for a long time. I hope it can mean something to some other couples when we're finally able to release it in early '22. How much time do you have to make sure you spend on new music? We've got an eight month old at the house, so not nearly as much time as I used to. Which is fine. I stay up for a couple hours after my wife some nights working on writing and polishing up some songs. When we decided to pull the trigger on recording some new stuff, I spent a couple full days ironing out every little detail with the tunes we were getting ready to record. Thankfully, I have a good wife that helps me find time to do things like that when I need to. Is there a fine line of revealing too much of yourself in your music? I don't think so. I try to be transparent in everything because those are the songs that mean the most. Everyone has a song that helped them get through a breakup or losing someone close to them. I don't think we'd have songs like that if every artist was too worried about revealing too much of themselves. So if I overshare a little bit here and there, that's just me trying to be as real as I can so my songs can mean as much as possible to somebody. How do you make sure to always serve your fans the best of you? It's the same thing as before. Like with my writing, I try to be as authentic as possible as an artist. I make an effort to visit with folks that come up to me after a set, or message people that have reached out about a song or whatever it may be. Things like that mean a lot to both sides, and I think the artists that are too cool to visit with fans or show any kind of emotion are missing out.
